Ariel Gilreath is an education and family issues reporter for The Greenville News in Greenville, South Carolina. She’s written about a variety of topics, from the state’s battles with John de la Howe, a residential school for at-risk youth in McCormick County, to higher education policies denying children of undocumented immigrants scholarships. She received first place in education beat reporting in 2016 from the South Carolina Press Association, and again in 2018 for weekly papers in South Carolina.

After graduating from Winthrop University in December of 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, she started working for the Index-Journal in January of 2015. She moved to the Greenville Journal in July of 2018 before transitioning to The Greenville News in September of 2019.
